> Interview : Laure Brown (ArcTokyo)
HRFQ : Can you tell us how the structure of your set will be?
Richie : There is no structure. There's a beginning and an end. We always know when the beginning is, but we never know when the end is.
Ricardo : No, what's happening, Richie's playing a record and I react to that and then he's reacting to me. The good thing is that I can trust that he is reacting perfectly. I don't know other DJs who can do that for my taste of music. So it's always very nice and perfect. It's always a nice surprise what he's playing and what I play, so it's going on the whole time. And of course we're reacting to the people - if they are dancing or not. If they are looking too strange, etc.
Richie : It's always a bit of an experiment, but it works out interesting. For everyone involved. And it's a lot of fun for sure.
HRFQ : When do you think you will come back to Japan next time?
Ricardo : I would like to be twice or three times a year in Japan.
Richie : Yeah - same with me. I would love to be here even more, but we don't have enough time to afford that luxury because there are so many places to play. Two or three times would be great. And hopefully together or separately by the middle of the year. We have our fingers crossed. I was here for five days this time and it wasn't enough. I stayed and chilled out in Tokyo and I didn't have anything that I really had to do, so it was relaxing. I saw some friends and looked around at the city - hanging. I really didn't do anything. Usually you have to go record shopping or see this temple, but I've done those things now. This time was just like being here, but not being such a tourist.
HRFQ : What are some new projects you have coming up?
Ricardo : We're together in Berlin and working together with musicians of the same kind of music and so we have projects together, a live project called -Niki. Richie is a part of it and we both have our studios there and we'll start to do projects soon. Exactly, I never know, but I do know that it will be very nice and very cool. And very new.
Richie : We're always talking about projects - recording together, doing more gigs together. But everything's worked really naturally, as we've become friends and we've played more together. So new things will come out of it where they are supposed to.
Ricardo: In a very natural way.
HRFQ : Any message to Japanese fans?
Richie : It's always a message to the Japanese fans! How about the Czech fans!
Ricardo : The message is that the music isn't as hard as before - it's becoming much more "organic"c
Richie : HA! I like this word!
Ricardo : ...It's mixed -- much more different styles and cultures, and more melodies coming in. It's much softer and more sensual. I think this is what the people have to prepare for in the future.
The really hard Techno for hours, this concept for us is over. I can't stand it anymore. I think Riche too.
Richie : I think the message is to be as open-minded as possible. I think so many people make music now. And there are so many advances with technology allowing kids to try their own ideas. It's becoming much more wide and varied again. It's becoming much more interesting for us -- the listeners and the Djs or producers. It's time to be really open-minded.
