In 1999, established as Japan's largest indoor rave, Takkyu Ishino's WIRE event has expanded to a two-day festival at Yokohama Arena This year's Saturday line-up consisted of the main floor and a smaller second floor. The main floor alternated between DJ sets and live acts at opposite ends of the arena. On display were Detroit techno-influenced artists of Germany and Japan. Perfectly timed were acts such as DJs: Dero, Hell, Ken Ishii, Marco Bailey, Michel de Hey, Tasaka, Westban and live acts: Anthony Rother, Denki Groove, Der Dritte Raum, Zombie Nation. Some of the highlights were electric-pop duo, Denki Groove. Ishino himself was behind the decks, partnered with Pierre Taki on the mic. Timed with their compilation retrospective album, Singles and Strikes, they captivated the audience. Berlin's Love Parade founder Westbam finished off the main floor with his own version of anthemic techno. On the second floor, DJs Felipe, Frank Muller, John Wink, Shin Nishimura Tobi Neumann rocked the stage. Interspersed with the live performances of Paul Kalkbrenner and Ryukyu Disco, people were lined up to get in. The highlights were Tobi Neumann and finishing off the night was Josh Wink who caused so much emotion that the floor seemed to rock. These are certainly faces to watch on the rise to stardom in Japan. | |
