THE RESIDENTS : DJ TANZAWA

The third DJ on the Residents sessions is DJ Tanzawa, a man who, when he isn't DJing, forms one half of the duo Bionic Rockers, who released their debut single on Renaissance this year, and also half of Total Confusion, who have just released their debut EP on Intrinsic. Tanzawa took to the decks over twenty years ago, and started producing music with H. Nakamura as the duo Bionic Rockers in the late 90s. After a few domestic releases, Tanzawa and his Bionic Rockers project eventually started to make inroads into the international scene, attracting the attention of several established artists, notably Hernan Cattaneo, who included their original track, Code 0320, on his Renaissance 2005 Master Series compilation. Following the success of this release, Renaissance signed the track, and it climbed to No.9 in the US records pool chart, enjoying heavy exposure on the dancefloor by many international DJs. And as if that wasn't enough, Tanzawa launched another project, Total Confusion, which made its EP debut through UK progressive label Intrinsic. The project caught the eye of House legend Francois K, and the debut album, released in December, has already been making its reverberations felt, to great critical acclaim. 2006 will see Tanzawa continue to strengthen his DJ activities, and a first album release from the Bionic Rockers is deep in the pipeline.
