I get a bit skeptical about mix albums these days, computers do such a perfect job of mixing tracks together, every release is pretty much perfect so it really is down to track selection that makes the great compilations and the great artists stand out. But this mix, from the up and coming female superstar DJ Sandra Collins, on Oakenfolds label, Perfecto, is one of them
Right from the start of this 2 CD compilation the tracks somehow seem to fit together perfectly, compliment each other effortlessly, blurring each track into a continual anthem. Starting as it evidently means to go on with Junkie XL's 'Reshur', it builds up gradually through some thick progressive tracks such as Slacker's remix of Moby - In This World, and Avedon, 'Flux'. The beat is relentless and driving, occasionally dropping into a bit of trance and then back to progressive, always with dark tribal beats, breakdowns and heart stopping hands in the air moments. The style, obviously learnt from the demands of party goers worldwide, is hard to pin down, but then, why try? Just sit back, close your eyes and get carried away.
And if the first CD does then the second will blow you away. With roof raisers already classics on the dance floor from artists such as Quest Vs The Dirty Floors and Rolasoul the mix never lets go for a second. Building up and breaking all the way to a fantastic crescendo with a remix of BT's 'The Great Escape' this album, I have no doubt, will become the soundtrack of many a clubbers week nights, counting down to the weekend.
