Sven Vath rocked the house at Shibuyas Womb last Saturday night. It was the Womb round of the Cocoon Club presented by Salem innovation nights. And what a party. You would never have guessed Sven arrived in Tokyo less than 24 hours after finishing another Cocoon session at Zouk Club in Kuala Lumpur, the ease at which the German left everybody wide eyed and breathless, was just brilliant and he seemed to get just as much out of it as the crowd, dancing with his entourage behind the decks and playing with the crowd in front. He seemed to take everything at his own pace
effortlessly putting the night together as if he had done this a million times before. Come to think of it he probably has. The 36 year old has been around for a long time, truly a driving force behind global techno music and the fact that he was 'doing it,' 'way back when' has not dampened his spirit all these years later, as certainly everybody at Womb on Saturday could testify. Already warmed up and worked up by Japans own latest techno star Dr Shingo, (whom Vath is admittedly a fan) Sven soon had them eating out of his hand with his signature blend of pulsing minimal techno and tribal beats. Another truly great night at Womb, nine months since he played Japan previously and all will be hoping the gap will not be so long until the next time. Cocoon is a club concept solely the brain child of Sven, with its base club in Frankfurt, Germany, but with lots of Tours and a 2004 residency at Ibiza's Amnesia. He is truely one of the big guns in dance music, and though I was never a die hard techno fan, Sven Vath has become one of my new favorite DJ's. | |
