The second installment of the widely publicised Dimension K parties sponsored by Kool cigarettes took flight at club Ageha Studio Coast in Shin Kiba last Saturday featuring Djs Louie Vega and Dave Seaman.

"Lagoon", like it's predecessor "Moon" took it's name from the "OO" motif that is so easily recognisable as part of Dimension K's promotional identiy. The entire venue was transformed from Japan's biggest club into an aquatic tour-de-force, a complete and undeniably meticulous take on the theme of the murky deep.

Apart from two of of house music's biggest heavyweight acts as well as a wide slice of local acts including the progressive sounds of Osamu M, hip hop from Hasebe & Kaori and Reggae from Mackdaddy and Maverick "Lagoon" saw the return of the British performance troupe "Air of Insanity" whose unque blend of acrobatics and theatre punctuated "Moon" and brought everything from underwater aquanauts to parrotfish women and strange lurking monsters 'swimming' through the crowd at "Lagoon".

Again all the stops had been pulled out in the name of a good time. Spectacular custom props, decorations and lightshows adorned nearly every corner of the massive complex giving it a real "one night only in the octopus's garden" type feeling and focussing on whisking the crowd away to another place altogether.

With Louie Vega spinning his unique blend of house and soul in the arena and showcasing influences including his own Masters at Work material, the atmosphere was definitely a festive and somewhat reserved one with the main room not filling up. One of the more interesting features of the night was the fact that progressive big gun Dave Seaman played outside in Ageha's temporary pavillion area, not far from the exits of the main room and water bar. This allowed the rather hot and exhausted crowd to not only siphon off away from both the Arena and the pool area but meant a packed house for most of Seaman's storming five and a half hour set which saw bubble machines and a huge screen with aquarium-themed visuals setting the aquatic mood of the night.

The technological aspect present at "Moon" was certainly again visible at "Lagoon" with everything from listening posts and large-scale visuals depicting futuristic underwater cities and submersables whizzing past to virtual reality displays of Dimension K's upcoming event "Zoom", which is sure to be equally, if not even more spectacular than the last two.

All in all a night to remember and certainly geared towards making the partygoes really forget the ourside world and disappear beneath the surface, well, at least for a few hours or so. (Ollie Beeston)
