Louis Osbourne has denied recent press reports he’s retired from DJing to study law, telling Skrufff this week ‘I’m still DJing regularly; things are still ticking along nicely.’
“I’m resident at a new party called Magic Music in Birmingham, we’ve got Justice, Andy Weatherall and myself playing this weekend,” Louis added, “I’m doing New Years Eve with Annie Mac and Erol Alkan for Bugged Out and Magic Party and I’m still doing bits and pieces abroad, such as Shanghai and Beijing in November.”
British legal magazine The Lawyer earlier reported that the ‘eldest son of
Birmingham's finest Ozzy’, had ‘swapped his tracks for textbooks’ and ‘chosen a more salubrious career’ by enrolling at law school, though Louis stressed he’s committed to continuing both activities.
“I’m in Law School, that’s true, because I started thinking about life after DJing. We do have to think about that and I wanted to go into music and entertainment law, so I’m back at college at the moment, doing a law degree in the evenings, three nights a week,” he explained.
“It’s a lot of work. But the academic year is only about 7 months of the year, so I have a five month break when I can play a lot.”
The former techno orientated DJ said he’s also been inspired by the electro/ minimal/ tech sounds of German labels including BPitch and Great Stuff Records, after switching his focus from the States to mainland Europe in the last four years.
“At the moment the standard of music is far more exciting than it’s been for ages, it got really stale a few years ago. There’s so much great music out there and you can’t just turn off your passion,” he said.
“I have no intention of retiring from DJing in the foreseeable future.”
