Paul Van Dyk took the top spot in DJ Magazine's latest top 100 DJ poll this week, knocking Tiesto into second place after a three year reign at the top.
The poll showed yet again that trance continues to dominate mainstream club culture (and DJ Magazine's readership) with Armin Van Buuren, Sasha & Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and ATB also appearing in the magazine's top 10.
Big winners in the poll included L'Oreal poster star David Guetta (new entry at 39), Mario Piu (re-entry at 38) and Timo Mass (re-entry at 52) while David Morales, 2 Many DJs and James Lavelle all slipped out of the 100.
DJ Mag will presumably be delighted that Tiesto's no longer top dog after last year's debacle when the Dutch DJ pulled out of their awards party just hours before it opened. DJ responded by accusing him of 'feeding his ego' since his 'shock win in 2002' and ridiculed him further in a biting review of the party he blew out.
"There's an understandable sense of disappointment from some corners of the crowd- alongside a sigh of relief from those of us who'd prefer to solder our ear together than actually have to listen to his turgid tosh", they scoffed.
"Much as we respect our readers' choice, we don't actually have to agree with it, you know?"
