July 15th 2006 will see the triumphant return of the Love Parade to it's hometown of Berlin after a two year hiatus, during which time the festival toured to other countires. The parade founded in 1989, four months prior to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, was cancelled in 2004 and 2005 owing to financial difficulties following poor turn outs in previous years.
The homecoming is said to be thanks to German company, McFit who will be a major sponsor of this year's event. Thanks to McFit and other sponsors the 2006 Love Parade will not favour more commercially successful entrants as float rental will be absolutely free. The promoters are apparently hoping that the new look Love Parade will represent a wider spectrum of the international dance music community than in previous years.
Those wishing to take part in the parade can submit their application, which will be judged by both a panel of experts and the general public, through the Love Parade website.
