Give Peace a Dance

If the idea of world peace tickles your fancy and you enjoy the occasional session of boogying, then you are going to love September 16. That’s because the 16th of September every year is the Earthdance festival which is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Every year since 1996 people all around the world have gathered on this special day to dance in a celbration of peace and to also help raise funds for selected charities. This year will see 250 locations in 50 countries, including Finland, Brazil, Canada and India, unite in a prayer for peace as part of this event that has raised US$1,000,000 since it was conceived.
The hub event for this global peace loving community extravaganza is held in Northern California and will boast a list of artists that includes Freq Nasty, DJ Logic, India Arie, Blackalicious and Ozomatli as well as a film festival and many different workshops. Meanwhile, down south in Australia the Earthdance community have come together to launch their own record label Earthdance Records in order to release a double CD honouring ten years of global love. Artists from past Earthdance events will lend their tracks to either the up-beat dancefloor oriented disc or the chill-out CD with more details promised soon.
