New York electro queen Princess Superstar chatted to Skrufff this week about her upcoming concept album My Machine and revealed that its take-no-prisoners theme of out-of-control celebrity was directly inspired by her own experiences of commercial success.
"When Bad Babysitter came out three years ago I was suddenly on Top Of The Pops and this was after I'd already done four albums and it was very strange, I really freaked out, I got very overwhelmed," the Princess recalled.
"Sometimes when good things happen to you they can be almost as overwhelming as bad things if you're not prepared for them. That's why people self sabotage sometimes," she mused.
Her new album includes collaborations with Armand Van Helden, Felix Da Housecat and Jacques Lu Cont and tells the tale of a futuristic Princess Superstar who is 'the only pop star; the only actor; the only weather girl; the only supermodel'.
"This orgy of self-publicity know no bounds," the album press release continues, "Her levels of ego are off the scale."
"Another side of me totally loved the success, I got a lot of money and it made me want more success," the present day Princess told Skrufff returning to her reality, "It was like a weird drug; I became like a fame drug fiend, desperate to score."
"It gets really bad when you find yourself starting to compare yourself to other stars," she added, "You start thinking so and so's got a better hotel room; it makes you really fucking bratty and you have to watch it," she laughed.
My Machine is out on K7 in September.(Jonty Skrufff/Skrufff.com)
