Skrufff's man-in- New York Larry Tee confirmed this week that his Thursday night Disgraceland at Crobar is taking an extended break, with no firm plans to re-open in the immediate future.
"It was great to be able to afford to bring in the likes of Tiefschwarz, The Glimmer Twins, Whitey and Grandmaster Flash to New York and Crobar wants us to continue but we haven't decided whether we want to continue weekly or monthly or whether we are going to do in such a big space at all," said Larry. "We are also considering a new Saturday party somewhere instead."
"My fave new club in New York City right now is Misshapes which is an alternative dance rock party where kids don't think it's uncool to dance," he continued, " though for the next wave I think London is beginning to show lots of promise," he predicted.
"Music Shopping is much better there and that will probably give London an advantage creatively. NYC has no record stores and that creates a problem for the evolution of music. If you can't listen to something new you can't be inspired by it," said Larry.
The globe-trotting DJ/ promoter (who remains synonymous with electroclash) also suggested America's West Coast could become the new hotspot for alternative culture, specifically Los Angeles.
"LA has a huge supply of kids dressed up like alternative rock bands with touch of 'Thriller-style' 80s camp," he explained. "And LA is still affordable whereas NYC and London aren't." (Jonty Skrufff / Skrufff.com)
