Founded in 1995 by Damian Harris (aka Midfield General), Skint Records established a firm hold on the big beat scene with numerous releases from legendary DJ/Producer Fatboy Slim. With the eventual demise of big beat the label took a more techno/house path with releases from Dave Clarke, FC Kahuna, Tiga and X-Press 2. Not content however with a myopic musical view, Skint has also been involved with names from the breaks and hip hop world such as Freq Nasty, Lo-fi All Stars, Cut la Roc and International Pony.
In order to celebrate 10 successful years in the world of dance music Skint Records will be throwing a birthday bash at London's the End on Saturday September 3rd. On the night, label stalwarts FC Kahuna and Phil Kieran will be joined by Justin Robertson and Ben Fat Trucker in the main room as they dip into an extensive Skint back catalogue. Meanwhile Midfield General, Cut la Roc and Lo-fi All stars will join forces in the lounge to supply a mash up of breaks, hip hop and party tunes. AKA regulars Sancho Panza will supply a welcome retreat for the more feint of heart with some carnival house beats. Skint Records' eclecticism seems to be well represented at this special 'As One' event. (Nick Lawrence)
