Pacha's brand director Danny Whittle chatted to Skrufff this week about the upcoming Ibiza season and dismissed reports that local authorities are trying to attract families at the expense of clubbing tourists.
"They've been saying that for years and every season something new crops up whether it's about a beach or a club closing down, whatever" said Danny. "Space has supposedly been closing down for the last few years for example but in practise it doesn't happen. There's so much rumour driven stuff out here, it's quite unbelievable."
"You can pretty much party 24 hours a day on Ibiza, there is always somewhere open, no matter what, that facility is always there, and millions of people still come here partly because it's still a very free island," he pointed out.
"I know people now who are saying Koh Samui (Thailand's infamous party island) is much worse than Ibiza, with tourists getting seriously busted for having a bit of weed on them, whereas if you look at the clubbing facilities here, there's enough space for 50,000 people a night and 25,000 people in the day, with all the beaches and bars and god knows what else. The freedom's still here, it really is."
"Having said that, if everything was totally free on Ibiza, you wouldn't get round the island for car wrecks and dead bodies," he added. "There has to be a certain amount of responsibility where people have a good time."
Pacha's new season kicks off (proper) on Friday June 3 with the biggest change being Defected taking over Underwater's vacated Tuesday night (opening June 21 with Junior Jack and Kenny Dope.
Roger Sanchez hosts Mondays, Morillo on Wednesdays, Ministry (some) Thursdays, Pete Tong and Jade Jagger on Fridays, David Morales' Def Mix Saturdays and Sander Kleinenburg, Tenaglia and Renaissance splitting Sundays.
